Do I have to go to the Chiropractor Forever?

I recently told a friend of mine that I felt like I was falling apart since I missed my last chiropractic appointment. She responded with, “do you really have to go to the chiropractor for the rest of your life or you fall apart?” What a great question that many people have asked me over the years. No, you do not have to go to the chiropractor for the rest of your life, but many people do continue on with a maintenance program after they get out of their initial pain because they feel so great and want to continue feeling that way. I think of my chiropractic care just like eating healthy and exercising. Once I start a new routine, I don’t have to do it for the rest of my life but I do have to continue with it as long as I want to see the awesome results that I have achieved. Just like building great muscle tone, I have to continue to take care of my body if I want it to function optimally. Chiropractic care is no different. During my day to day life, I have repetitive stress and trauma placed on my body that causes misalignment and fixations in my body. If you could see how I sit on my couch for a Netflix binge you would be shocked that I am not constantly in pain! But when I am able to take care of my joints and get them moving properly instead of allowing them to stay fixated, I feel a lot better! That is why not only did I decide to become a chiropractor but I myself get adjusted at least every 2 weeks. Because I like helping people to feel the best that they can. Do I live the perfect lifestyle? No. I make many mistakes during the day, I don’t always eat the healthiest, I binge watch Netflix, I have to type on a computer, and I have to pick up a needy one and a half year old all the time( even when I am not in the best position to do so). I don’t always feel the best after all of this so I get adjusted to help my joints move better, which allows me to feel my best and continue with my crazy lifestyle. Not everyone can move as much as they want to during the day and sit optimally at their desk, but chiropractic care helps people to not have to live in pain even though they can’t alter what in their lifestyle is causing so many issues. Where changes can be made I help my patients make them, but a lot of things can’t be changed and I help them as much as I can to feel their best with the situation they have been given! So, no, you do not need to go to a chiropractor for the rest of your life, but once you do you usually want to continue to feel the best that you can!
